About our church

Who We Are

The United Church of Christ acknowledges as its sole head, Jesus Christ, Son of God and Savior. It acknowledges as kindred in Christ all who share in this confession. It looks to the Word of God in the Scriptures, and to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, to prosper its creative and redemptive work in the world. It claims as its own the faith of the historic Church expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed in the basic insights of the Protestant Reformers. It affirms the responsibility of the Church in each generation to make this faith its own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God. In accordance with the teaching of our Lord and the practice prevailing among evangelical Christians, it recognizes two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion.
~ From the Preamble to the Constitution of the United Church of Christ

Our Mission Statement

We unite to worship God and share Christ’s love by caring for our wider community in a way that welcomes all and invites and inspires the gift of spiritual renewal.

Our Vision

  • A LOVING COMMUNITY IN CHRIST
  • Our Vision is:
  • To offer worship that celebrates God’s love and inspires us to bring that love into our daily lives.
  • To engage people of all ages and at all stages of their spiritual journeys in Christian faith formation.
  • To serve the community with compassionate hearts in the name of God.
  • To be intentional and consistent in our support and care for each other.
  • To be living examples of God’s love as we have come to know it through Jesus Christ.

Our Essential Beliefs

  • That they may all be one (John 17:21).
  • In essentials unity, in nonessentials diversity, in all things charity.
  • Testimonies of faith rather than tests of faith.
  • There is yet more light and truth to break forth from God's Holy Word.
  • The priesthood of all believers.
  • Responsible freedom.

Statement of Faith

We believe in you, O God, Eternal Spirit, God of our Savior Jesus Christ and our God, and to your deeds we testify:
You call the worlds into being, create persons in your own image, and set before each one the ways of life and death. You seek in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin. You judge people and nations by your righteous will declared through prophets and apostles. In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Savior, you have come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to yourself. You bestow upon us your Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races. You call us into your church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be your servants in the service of others, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil, to share in Christ's baptism and eat at his table, to join him in his passion and victory. You promise to all who trust you forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, your presence in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in your realm which has no end. Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto you. Amen.
SPECIAL SAYINGS TO HELP YOU When fear and worry test your faith and anxious thoughts assail,Remember God is in control and He will never fail.
Oh, help me, Lord, to take by grace divineYet more and more of that great love of Thine; That day by day my heart may give to TheeA deeper love, and grow more constantly.
Because God is in control, we have nothing to fear.
If God's Word guides your conscience, let your conscience be your guide.
A Brief History
The First Congregational Church of Littleton was organized in 1803. The original church building was situated in West Littleton. In 1833, the existing church was constructed on Main Street. The parish house was built in 1883. Major renovations were made to the sanctuary in 1943. 1961 marked the culmination of an extensive stewardship and building program which linked the church and the parish house, creating a kitchen, church hall, church offices and classroom space.
The church is of English Gothic design, with twin spires dominant on the horizon against the majestic background of the White Mountains. The sanctuary, which seats 300, features a divided chancel centered on an 1881 Hook & Hastings organ. Long-term members and new visitors alike are entranced by sunlight streaming in through fifteen Tiffany stained glass memorial windows, installed in 1902.
A major capital campaign in 2006 raising over $700,000 enabled the church to clean and relead these windows, renovate the fellowship hall including the kitchen, make sanctuary repairs to include a new audio/visual system, restoration of the organ, installation of a foldaway divider in the ladies parlor, and a major construction redesign of the connector including new ADA compliant restrooms and a lift creating accessability from the street to the sanctuary, offices and church hall.
